Art of Ageing
my Thoughts on ageing

(or how to get older)

Most of my thoughts on ageing are in the gray area between right and wrong. I do believe that I am closer to right, but then again I am not young enought to be sure that I know "everything". The older and more experience I get the less I really feel that I "know everything". I do know for sure that if I live long enough I will be older.

<>snopes.com--rumor has it

We have a great informational tool in the internet. We can find information about most things and determine the true story (or can we?) In the past the written word carried much creditability. This creditability came from the cost, research, checking and overall effort of publishing. With the internet all one needs is a computer and an opinion. Some stories are clearly a falsehood, but others are not. Snopes.com is a "free" urban legends reference source, which can help you determine the truth.

  • The Secret of Diabetes

The secret is there there is no secret. There is so much information out there that it is a little overwhelming. We have doctors telling us what we should do and there are also classes, books, the internet and of course everyone else. The secret is that with all this, people still die early from diabetes. Even when they control the daily feedback about their condition and can adjust their insulin quickly. There remains poor diet and lack of exercise as a really important part of controlling diabetes. I did find these websits which help me understand diabetes somewhat better.

    The Diabetes Epidemic

    By David Mendosa

Diabetes is a potentially devastating disease that tends to be taken less seriously than it should because its beginning symptoms may not be alarming. However, its slow progression can lead to recurrent infections and ulcerations, nerve damage, gangrene (which often results in amputations), blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke. Individuals with diabetes have a reduced life expectancy.more.....

    10 Myths about Diabetes

Source: Martha M. Funnell MS, RN, CDE

To help separate fact from fiction, here are ten myths and the truth about diabetes. 1. All diabetes is inherited. Not everyone who gets diabetes inherits it. People tend to inherit the risk of type 2 diabetes more than type 1. You are considered at risk for developing type 2 if any first-degree relatives have diabetes. 2. People with diabetes should never eat sugar and sweets. Sugar and sweets do raise your blood glucose, but people with diabetes can safely eat sugar as part of their meal plan. And just to clear up another myth, you can’t get diabetes from eating too much sugar.more.....

Diabetes History Through the Years - From the Beginning Until the Present

    By Jennifer Kirkman

Back in the year of 1552 BC it was, the very first diabetic case was noted. There was a Third Dynasty physician of Egyptian descent, namely Hesy-Ra. He had a patient way back then that had urination all of the time. It wasn't until 1600 years after that fact that some Greek doctor known as Arateus caught on to an illness that seem to make people literally deteriorate as they become weaker and their flesh was going away. All of these people affected at that point and time, couldn't quit making urine constantly. So it was Arateus who put a name to that known as diabetes. The term diabetes, was like that of a funnel of water that knew no end, and water kept passing through.more.....

  • <>How Ageing Affects Memory

Long terms memories are good and bad. The mind discards all the other memories of our lives which it decides are non-essential to us such as the 3rd phone number we had or the name of the little girl in the 2nd grade. This was designed into us in order to prevent us from being overwhelmed by all of the events which happen every second we are alive. But I have found that I have forgotten things which I wish to remember. A childhood friend reminded me of a school trip which we took in 1962 or 1963. I remember the trip, but when he started describing some of our activities on the trip, I could not remember more than that we took a trip. He even send me two picture of the trip which I know that I was on which clearly showed me there and enjoying myself. Even if I had not thought of this trip in years, but it should have been in my good long term memory file. This brings thing forgotten from an natural ageing process to a concern of how well my memory is working or how much have I lost without my being aware of the loses. I went looking for answers and found that I was not alone. Here are some other people who are looking and may have found some answers..

    <>Bored and Ageing

There are a lot of misconceptions about retirement. These are usually by people who are not retired. Having 24-hours/7days-a-week with few if any "things which I have to do's" is a challenge. The challenge is not to fall into a frenzy of activity to fill these hours or esle to completely withdraw from the world. We have spend most of our lives ageing around a job Where we trained ourselves to produce by constant feedback. Now we must develop a new self measuring tool for our lives. This tool must be used in determining your best use of your interest, family, friends, health and money. Here are somethings to think about.

    1. Interest- some things which interested me at a different time have lost their appeal due to my maturing and ability.

    2. Family- they have their own lives and they may be long distant away and you contact could be limited.

    3. Friends- most of my friends are still working. Would contact from me be welcome.

    4. Health- you may not be able to do a project even with time and money, if you are physically incapable.

    5. Money- most of us have A limited income and would like to run out of money on the day we die. And we are not sure when that day might come.

The answer is life. Life is the thing between what we want to do and what we must to do to continue living. Who ever said "There is no free lunch" was correct. So stay alert, keep learning and have fun. Here are a few placed I like to look for information.

    <>Ageing well

Living is the postponement of death, which requires effort, some which seem to prolong life and others which can shortening it. Living is a compromise between what we want to do and what we should do. These efforts envolve technology, natural solutions and modern medical solutions. A medical solution is usually the fastest and most expensive with plenty of creditability. Natural solutions are usually from word of mouth, personal experience and slower. Technology is usually expensive at the beginning but can be used again and again.

What did I do and what am doing today? Here my action plan.

  • <>Medical - I am a believer in today's medical practice and I'm alive because of their power. I had have three heart attacks and a stroke and each time they did a great job of putting me back together. But think for your self and keep a open mind.

<>youngevity> - natural solutions: I use these products (cheri mins#13204 and osteo-fx #13209 for my bones) to replace the lost nutrition due to drugs side effect, natural ageing process and pir processed food (canned and frozen)

  • <>Nikken -They work like magic. If you hurt, put a Nikken Magnetic on it and the hurt decreases and possible stops. Plus they can be used again and again. I use their products to walk on with magnetic insoles in my shoes, I sleep on a kenco sleep pad under a kenko Dream comforter which cool or warms according to your body's needs, sit on my kenko seat pad in my office or my car or even in the living room for t.v. watching to reduce my hurt and discomfort. I also use their shower filters and drink their filtered water for better health. Look and learn.

  • <> Vibra Trim - technology: Exercise for health with little sweat. My workout program is to work my upper body during the 10 minute workout on the vibra trim, 40 sit ups and a 30 minutes walk most days. The Vibra Trim is one of the secret to a enjoyable life. It prevents bone lost, improves circulation, increased flexibility and helps with other health problems. Check it out. Read the studies and learn. Or call me (Ed Grinder) at 1-866-420-8787...

  • <> Juicing - To insure that I get enought fruits and vegetables. I juice three times per week. My favorite receipt is 2 apples, one orange, 4 carrots and grapes.

<>The Secret of Senior's physical Fitness

We have spend a lot of time throughout history learning how to do things faster and more efficiently. The whole world is in agreement that faster and bigger is better. And this aptitude can be rewarded with a high standards of living, comfort and wealth.

This altitude can and will work against us when we try to maintain our physical fitness in our retirement years. Our bodies go through changes. The medications which keep us alive have bad side effects. And our motivation have changed as we age. And we gain the freedom to not do a lot of things, because we only have to satisfy our wishes. Of course this freedom is a two edge sword that allows us the freedom to benefit or to damage your body through either too much or not enough. Having few deadlines can allow one to procrastinate with bad hidden result. Motivation is the key ingredient of a senior's physical fitness program. We senior's have the time and resources to become and maintain our health. But our desire to actually do the work is weak. Combined this with our perceived limited abilities and you get excuses instead of results. The end results (looking good) is not a strong enough to carry us through. We need enjoyable points along the way. A good example is that a 30 minute walk three times a week could involved shopping or other enjoyable activities and get the same results as going round and round on a track. I do recommend a small regiment of exercise first thing in the morning for discipline purposes, but we can fill the rest of the day with some interesting or purposeful activities. Some good examples for me would be going to Home Depot to walk and look or parking far away from the door to my doctor's office and making it a fast walk. I believe in using a exercise maching in my morning routine. The one I use is a Vibra Trim (vibration machine) which is a overall health machine. It works on circuition, prevents bone loss, improve balance and a host of other benefits in a 10 minute time cycle. I include in this 10 minutes a work out with weight for my upper body while the machine is running through it's cycle plus a few more minutes work on problem areas. This plus my interesting activities and of course chores are my exercise program and it seems to be working after over 2 years of retirement.

    <>Ageing and Depression

We all have good days and bad days. Only when the bad days become bad weeks and bad months should we be concerned. Depression is a lack of neurotransmitter in the brain due to stressful events, diet, lifestyle and maybe genets. Most doctors will proscribe a mood alternating drug to treat depression. These drugs seem to solve the problem if you ignore the bad side effects of these drugs. Or you could do as a lot of people do in self-medicate yourself. This could be as simple as from smoking or over eating to abusing alcohol or mood alternating drugs both legal and otherwise.

The natural, safe solution is to reduce your stress, change to a health diet, get a lot of sleep and change your altitude and life. But most of us either cannot get out of the rat race or even want to get out even if we knew how. So we self medicate or we take the prescribed drugs for their benefits with their bad side effects. My answer is to give the body the nutritional products it needs to make neurotransmitters naturally in the body through a nutritional supplement. This allows me to live my life as it is. To understand depression better here are some articles on the subject.

An elderly couple went to dinner at the home of some friends, also elderly. After dinner, the wives went into the kitchen and the two men were talking. One said, "We went out to dinner last night at a really good restaurant. I'd highly recommend it."The second man said, "What's the name of it?"The first man thought and thought, then said, "What's the name of that flower you give to someone you love, the one that is usually red that has thorns?""Oh, you mean a rose?" said the second man."Yes, that's it," said the first man. Then he called to the kitchen, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

    Too much money?

Throughout my life I have had to balance earning a living with living. From working too many hours to having 24/7 for myself with no income. Now with retirement I have the 24/7 with a livable income, and time to do all of the things I have dream of doing except things which cost money. I am limited in my ability to earning more money to working a job or so it seemed. As luck has it my friend pull me into the internet and I found a opportunity.
